Valentina Kozlova in the Boston International Ballet Competition (BIBC)

 

VALENTINA KOZLOVA ANNOUNCES CASH AWARDS FOR THE NEW BOSTON INTERNATIONAL BALLET COMPETITION, to be held MAY 2011 in BOSTON, MASS. USA.

Valentina Kozlova, former principal dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet and New York City Ballet, now a prominent New York coach and teacher of the Vaganova method, is pleased to announce the cash awards for medalists in the Boston International Ballet Competition (BIBC), which will have its first event May 12-16 in John Hancock Hall, Boston, Massachusetts.

The Competition is divided into three categories:
Senior Division, ages 19-25
Junior Division, ages 15-18
Student Division, ages 13 & 14.

Kozlova is pleased to announce the prizes:

Senior Division
Gold Medal: US$9,000 each plus gold medal diploma
Silver Medal: US$5,000 each plus silver medal diploma
Bronze Medal: US$2,500 each plus bronze medal diploma

Junior Division
Gold Medal: US$1,500 each plus gold medal diploma
Silver Medal: US$1,000 each plus silver medal diploma
Bronze Medal: US$500 each plus bronze medal diploma.

There are no cash prizes in the Student Division.

In addition to the medals and cash awards, BIBC announces the Liepa Prize, named for Maris Liepa, legendary dancer, choreographer and teacher at the Bolshoi Ballet. One dancer considered outstanding will be selected and presented the award by Andris Liepa, a BIBC judge. Scholarships to schools to be announced will also be awarded.

A newly added award is the Chelyabinsk Prize. Konstantin Uralsky, artistic director of the Chelyabinsk State Academy Opera and Ballet Theater will attend BIBC and select a participant of the highest level to perform the lead role in one of his Company's full-length productions. All expenses paid. Date and production to be announced.

Mikko Nissenen, Artistic Director of the Boston Ballet, is President of the Jury, which  includes:

  • Violette Verdy (France)
  • Andris Liepa (Russia)
  • Hae Shik Kim (South Korea)
  • Septime Webre (USA).

Choreographers Margo Sappington and Edwaard Liang will each create a contemporary piece, which is a compulsory dance requirement for competitors.
